Black Cats, Broomsticks & Bellatrix: Who were the Witches?

Eminently suitable for Autumn or Winter this talk aims to try and make sense of the Witch Hunts of the early modern period & asks who were the Witches? Who were the women, and some men, put to death for being witches and has the fear and belief in witchcraft ever really gone away? Lucy, the Bellatrix Stunt Double in the Harry Potter films, attempts to answer these questions with a touch of Drama and Bellatrix wand action thrown in to spice up this spell!

Her latest was the premier of her talk on Witches which was both funny, sad and thought provoking for the group. We came away also thinking of the injustices which were done to many women and also men over the years all over the world.”

“To refer to Lucy Allen’s visits to our Theatre Group as ‘Talks’ is very much an understatement. She is a very vivacious person who enthusiastically and energetically acts out her appearances. Her day job is as a stunt person so we were treated, as always, to little anecdotes. On this occasion it was about her work on several Harry Potter films. Lucy ended this visit by passing around her witches hat for us to pick the name of someone condemned of witchcraft so we could look them up on the internet. Very enjoyable.”
